I’ve had a really good training week. That’s a lovely thing to report, yep?
Basically, I finally arrived at the decision that AM and PM training, and working at a newspaper are two states that do not mingle well. So, now I work hard in the morning, when I’m full of beans anyway, and get to enjoy the evening guilt free, preparing to wake up feeling good and ready once again.

New schedule looks like this:
Mon – Long Run – currently 80min (10min x-t, 60, 10xt atm due to injury care)
Tues – Interval Swim – Working on: maintaining pace, and cutting down stroke count. So 1k of drills, and 2k of intervals + Core
Wed – Depending on time/work: 5k of run intervals + jog, OR hill sprints + jog, OR –Practice Race. (Practice race should happen at least once in every 4wks)
Thurs – 2(20min bike HARD, 20min run easy) Bike working on keeping RPM 100+ on ‘random’ resistance
Fri – Rest
Sat – Long Ride
Sun – Swim 3(3x300m) with breast stroke rec between, working to cut out rec, or 500, 1.5k time trial, 500 + Core

I finally quashed all fears that racing this season was unachievable due to lack of endurance capability on Wednesday, by doing the whole thing in the gym. In fact, it really wasn’t hard at all and I’m now even more excited about the season ahead.

That and I used my lovely new Shock Absorber swim suit which I got for £10 at the TCR show. Last season, I went for sports bra + tri suit. Due to the fact sports bra never was designed to go in a swimming pool or lake, this resulted in a discrepancy in drying times which basically meant many soggy post race ‘too bloody tired to go get changed’ meals. So this season: bra empowered swim suit, + cycle shorts to be left in transition. I was a little worried about it because: I wear a 28inch back, and they start at 30inches, and I was also concerned biking and running in a swimsuit would be a bit uncomfortable. I can reveal that bra did a perfect job and slight give on the back made no difference, and the ensemble is perfectly bike and running friendly. I’d certainly recommend it as an option, and at £10 + £20 shorts, it beats my £50 (that’s the TX Maxx price…) sludgy-green tri suit!

Also, might I add, my 1.5k swim time seems to have dropped by around 3minutes…(from my first ever 1.5k time in March last yr of 32min to 29min… including dodging old ladies doing breaststroke side by side..) but I’m going to time it again with absolute digital precision before getting excited. I’m not sure I trust the clock at the pool…
